In a joint statement just released by the IDF and Shin Bet security service, the three Israeli women freed from Hamas captivity today are now safely in the hands of Israeli forces and being escorted back to Israeli territory. The release comes after more than 15 months of captivity following their abduction during the October 7 Hamas attack.
According to Channel 12's political analyst Amit Segal, footage from Gaza indicates the women were held in Gaza City, possibly in the Zeitoun neighborhood, close to the Netzarim axis. Segal revealed that the location was in an area where the IDF conducted numerous military operations during the ongoing conflict. "It's hard to count how many raids the IDF conducted in that area," Segal noted.
An elite IDF unit and Shin Bet personnel are accompanying the former hostages as they make their final journey home. The women will undergo initial medical evaluations upon crossing into Israel, with their next stop being a reunion with their mothers at Camp Re'im near the Gaza border.
Military personnel on the ground have been greeting the released captives with salutes and embraces as they make their way to safety, marking an emotional moment for both the rescued women and the forces involved in their return.
The IDF Spokesperson's Office has issued a public appeal for sensitivity during this delicate time, requesting that the media and public respect the privacy of the freed hostages and their families as they begin their recovery process.
According to the Times of Israel, Netnayahu's office also released this statement: “The government of Israel embraces the three returnees. The government of Israel is committed to returning all of the hostages and the missing.”
In an unexpected development, Israeli journalist Amit Segal reportedly claims that the IDF has the locations of several remaining hostages and is prepared for military operations to free them if the deal collapses.
