In light of reports about the formation of a deal for the release of hostages and a ceasefire, the IDF plans to change the defense method in the Gaza envelope. As part of the plan, many forces will be deployed, and the defense lines will be altered.
The new defense line will be divided into two main components, one based on intelligence and contracts in air, sea, and land. The second component includes the deployment of forces in the surrounding area in several overlapping lines. This is according to a publication by Shai Levy from the "Mako" website.
Technological components and aggressive policy
The first line of defense will include the buffer zone (the perimeter) and the obstacle that the IDF has been restoring since it was breached on October 7. Entry into this area will be completely prohibited for residents of Gaza. The order is to use live fire against anyone who enters there. There will be no agricultural or construction activities in this area. In addition to having many more soldiers and tanks in the defense zones, new technological components will be integrated.
In the IDF, they add that the most important component will be a policy of responding to every provocation and terrorist event. The IDF will also station combat forces in outposts for rapid response. In the new defense line, new outposts are being built along the border, which means a much larger force than in recent years.
MAG and drone for the alert unit
Another line of defense will also be within each of the kibbutzim adjacent to the fence. This involves a force of fighters stationed permanently within the kibbutz, whose purpose will be to respond immediately to any incident. Additionally, the IDF is strengthening the alert units, which have doubled in size and received heavy and new equipment, including MAG machine guns, rifles, drones, and new weaponry. The IDF has already established a quality reserve force for counter-terrorism based on local residents, similar to the Eilat counter-terrorism unit.
A senior IDF official who spoke with the residents of the kibbutzim clarified: "We are not going to kill every child who enters the perimeter. And it should also be understood that this is a political decision, so in a year or more, a decision could be made to reduce the perimeter or even cancel this area. We are also prepared for that and will know how to adjust the defense line."
