Israeli military forces discovered and neutralized multiple Hezbollah weapons storage facilities and a tunnel network near a United Nations peacekeeping base in southern Lebanon, the IDF announced Thursday.
The operation, carried out by the 11th Brigade Combat Team under Division 146 command, involved comprehensive sweeping operations targeting terrorist infrastructure in both urban environments and challenging terrain. The mission focused on areas where Hezbollah has established operational presence, while carefully maintaining compliance with existing Israeli-Lebanese agreements.
Military engineers and combat units uncovered dozens of terrorist infrastructure installations both above and below ground level. Of particular concern were multiple weapons storage facilities discovered in civilian buildings strategically positioned in close proximity to a central United Nations facility in the region.
The IDF emphasized that all neutralization operations were conducted with extreme precision to avoid any damage to the UN installation, highlighting the complexity of counter-terrorism operations in areas where militant infrastructure is embedded near international peacekeeping facilities.
During systematic searches of the area, troops located and identified a loaded missile launcher that had been positioned and primed to strike Israeli territory. The launcher was subsequently neutralized as part of the broader operation to remove immediate threats to Israeli communities.
The 11th Brigade continues to maintain an active presence in the border region, conducting ongoing security operations along the border fence and in surrounding strategic areas. These operations include detailed reconnaissance, threat assessment, and precise tactical interventions when necessary.
This discovery adds to mounting evidence of Hezbollah's military entrenchment in civilian areas of southern Lebanon, particularly its pattern of positioning military assets near international peacekeeping installations. The ongoing operations reflect the IDF's broader efforts to address security challenges along Israel's northern border while minimizing risks to civilian and international facilities in the region.
