A video showing Palestinian men celebrating the approval of the hostage deal and shouting "we are Mohammad Deif's men" in reference to the arch-terrorist and October 7 mastermind Mohammad Deif, assassinated by the IDF last summer, was posted on social media today (Wednesday).
Watch:
Public opinion on Hamas among Palestinians living in Gaza has been mixed throughout the war, with some polls showing a significant decline in support for the terrorist group due to the deprivations of the war, and some polls showing enduring support for Hamas continuing to rule or at least making the right decision in launching the October 7 attack.
Most polls conducted by Palestinian polling firms show more support for Hamas as well as its decision to launch the October 7 attack in Judea and Samaria compared to in Gaza, possibly due to the deprivations caused by Hamas' intense war against the IDF over the course of a year.
The question of who will govern the Gaza Strip "the day after" the war ends, assuming the hostage deal fully goes through, remains a matter of contention between Israel, Hamas, Fatah, and Egypt.
Egypt has tried to arrange a committee which would run the Gaza Strip's civilian affairs which would contain Hamas and Fatah representatives. However, representatives of the Palestinian Authority have rejected the idea of sharing power with Hamas, which murdered many Fatah members during a hostile takeover of the Strip in 2007.
The details of the government of the Gaza Strip are supposed to be hammered out in the third phase of the hostage deal, but details remain vague, especially compared to the first stage of the deal, whose details have been published in multiple news outlets.
If the deal is fully signed and approved by the Israeli government, the release of hostages will begin this Sunday and will be drawn out throughout the entire first phase of the agreement, set to last a month and a half.
