The IDF said that observations conducted earlier today (Wednesday) identified a number of vehicles travelling near the buffer zone in southern Syria carried arms and ammunition on their person.

IDF aircraft then fired to force them to vacate and they moved away from the location.

The army said that it is deployed in the area and will continue to work to protect the State of Israel and its citizens.

Sources in Arab media reported that a convoy of Syrian rebel forces, which now formally rule the country was attacked by an Israeli strike in the area of the village of Ghadir Al-Bustan between the Dara'a and Damascus districts, and that at least three people were killed in the strike.

The IDF has maintained what it calls a "forward defense" position in southern Syria since the collapse of the regime of Bashar Assad at the hands of the rebel alliance, with the aim of finding and destroying weapons belonging to the now-defunct Syrian Army and generally providing a buffer zone to help secure Israel and the Golan Heights in particular.

Prime Minister Netanyahu, Defense Minister Katz, and Foreign Minister Sa'ar have all emphasized Israel's intention to stay in the area of southern Syria at least until Syria "stabilizes."

Some senior officials have spoke of maintaining a "holding area" 15 kilometers deep within Syrian territory while also maintaining an "intelligence zone" about 60 kilometers deep in order to be able to detect any emerging threats to Israel from the country.

In his recent meeting with senior Italian parliamentary leaders, Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar said that Syrian leaders should be judged by their deeds, not their words. He noted that appointments to government positions and in the security forces were Jihadists and that no minority members had been appointed.

He did take positive note of Syria's statement that it does not want to engage in hostility with Israel.
