Forces of the 210nd Division are continuing in the IDF's "forward defense" operations in southern Syria in order to ensure security for Israelis in general and residents of the Golan Heights in particular.
The forward defense operation, involving units of the IDF sent into the buffer zone and beyond the border into Syria, was launched following the fall of Syrian dictator Bashar Assad, with the aim of removing any and all weapons belonging to the now defunct Syrian army and destroying the rest, so that no hostile parties can take them.
According to the IDF, the army seized some 3,300 items of military equipment, including some 1,500 missiles and rocket launchers, 2 tanks, 70 explosive weapons, some 570 electronic devices used for warfare, around 165 mortars, some 20 anti-aircraft missiles, and about 60 observation tools.
Watch (Source: IDF Spokesperson):
The IDF added that it has seized a total of 170,000 war-related items on all the fronts of the war, including in the Gaza Strip, Lebanon, and Syria.
Prime Minister Netanyahu has openly stated that Israel intends to remain in Syria to secure the border on the other side until a new security arrangement can be found to replace the now-defunct 1974 separation of forces agreement with the former Syrian regime under Bashar Assad.
Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar also visited the area of southern Syria controlled by the IDF, where he spoke with senior officers and with the UNDOF peacekeeping force. He then gave a statement saying that Israel will have to remain where it is in Syria until the situation "stabilizes" in the country.
Yesterday (Tuesday), when meeting with senior Italian parliamentary leaders, Sa'ar said that the Syrian regime should be judged by its deeds, not its words. He noted that so far, the new government has exclusively appointed jihadists to the government and in the security forces and excluded minorities.
Sa'ar did take positive note of the government's statement that it does not seek hostilities with Israel.
