At a press conference held today (Wednesday) in Italy, Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar told the press and his counterpart Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani that "in the current situation, a Palestinian state will surely be a Hamas state."

Sa'ar said that there is a very good reason that the Palestinian Authority has not held general elections since 2005. He added that a Palestinian state would not only not resolve the conflict but would in fact escalate it and deteriorate the state of security, peace, and stability in the whole region.

The Foreign Minister then addressed what Israel supporters call the Palestinian Authority's "pay for slay" policy wherein terrorists and their families are compensation out of the PA's coffers.

Sa'ar said that the Palestinian Authority needs to stop paying terrorists, and that today a terrorist receives money in accordance with the severity of their crime. He also reminded his audience that this is a condition of the European Union.

He also addressed the matter of incitement against Israel and Jews in the Palestinian educational system and official media, an issue which has also been the subject of frequent complaint by Israel.

The Foreign Minister said that the Palestinian authority needs to stop educating for incitement and stop "poisoning" the next generation. He added that Israel needs to see a real change among the Palestinians and that unfortunately this change is not visible today.

Yesterday, Foreign Minister Sa'ar met with pro-Israel influencers and opinion shapers in Italy to brief them on a range of important issues, telling them that the current hostage deal is a "gradual" one rather than a partial one as often reported in the media.

When meeting with senior Italian parliamentary leaders the same day, Sa'ar said that Syria's new leadership should be tested by its deeds, not its words, and that so far its appointments have been exclusively of Jihadists, without any representation for minorities.
