Winter illness wave: Four young women aged 22 to 50 were hospitalized in serious condition in the intensive care unit at Beilinson Hospital due to flu complications. This comes following a report of a flu outbreak in Israel, with hospitals struggling at 200% patient capacity.
At the hospital, it was noted that all four are sedated and on ventilators. One of the patients suffers from an underlying condition and is connected to an ECMO machine, a life-saving device that takes over the function of the heart and lungs and allows them to recover. Another patient arrived after giving birth. A third patient was hospitalized after surgery. Another young woman has been hospitalized in the department for several days with the flu and pneumonia.
Additionally, the fourth hospitalized patient was vaccinated against the flu. Dr. Moran Halerman, Deputy Director of the Intensive Care Unit at Beilinson Hospital from the Clalit Group, stated: "This flu wave, unlike previous years, involves a younger population and those without underlying health conditions."
According to her: "This highlights the importance of getting a flu vaccine, which can prevent reaching extreme situations like these. Additionally, when experiencing difficulty breathing and worsening symptoms, one should seek a doctor's examination."
