A short time ago today (Tuesday), Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar met with Lorenzo Fontana, President of the Italian Chamber of Deputies, and with Senator Stefania Crazi, Chairperson of the Senate's Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee to discuss a variety of diplomatic issues.
Sa'ar also met with Italian Parliamentary Members from the Italy-Israel Parliamentary Friendship Association.
In his meetings, Sa'ar provided updates regarding hostage negotiation talks as well as the latest developments in the Middle East.
Regarding Syria, Sa'ar said that the new government should be judged by its deeds rather than its words, and that so far all appointments to the government and the defense establishment have been purely Jihadist, with no representation for Syria's minorities.
Sa'ar did take positive note of Syria's statements that it has no intention to be hostile towards Israel. Sa'ar had previously visited the Golan Heights and southern Syria, stating that presently the IDF needs to remain on the other side of the border until matters settle down in the country.
Regarding Lebanon, Sa'ar reiterated Israel's determination to strongly enforce the ceasefire and respond to any and all attempts to violate it.
Sa'ar also addressed the need to lift the de facto Italian arms embargo on Israel, noting that radical Islam is a shared enemy of both Israel and Italy, and indeed the entire west.
The Foreign Minister stressed that Israel and Italy are allies with shared values and interests and that the two countries should work more strongly on cooperating with each other.
Foreign Minister Sa'ar previously visited Denmark and Hungary during his diplomatic tour, taking time to talk to senior government representatives of each country and to meet with the Jewish community in the Hungarian capital of Budapest.
Earlier today, Sa'ar met with a group of pro-Israel influencers and opinion makers and told them that the current hostage deal is "gradual, not partial."
