Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has granted an interview to NBC tomorrow (Wednesday), in which he will state that Iran seeks peace and de-escalation, according to Iran International.
The President's deputy posted on X today that "The Islamic Republic of Iran is committed to peace and de-escalation in the region and globally, condemns the Zionist regime's war-mongering, aggression, and genocide, and stands ready for honorable and equal negotiations."
Pezeshkian has repeatedly stated that Iran does not want war, and that it is Israel which seeks "all-out conflict" in fighting the multiple Iran-backed proxy armies throughout the region - Hamas in Gaza, Hezbollah in Lebanon, Houthis in Yemen, and others - rather than Iran in providing them with money, training, and arms.
Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei explained that Iran is negotiating with European countries over the country's nuclear weapons program and not the United States because "America's enmity toward Iran and the Revolution is deeply rooted and relentless."
Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar recently said that Israel and the incoming President-elect Donald Trump see "eye to eye" on the Iranian threat, and Trump's senior Middle East adviser Massad Boulos said that Trump intends to bring back a sanctions approach of "maximum pressure" in order to further isolate and weaken Iran and deter it from developing nuclear weapons or further supporting its terrorist proxy armies.
Iran is increasingly vulnerable to such sanctions, as it has been suffering compounding economic woes for the past several months. Inflation is now above 40%, and the currency continues to crater against the dollar.
Worse, Iran is suffering increasingly chronic fuel shortages, leading to problems in keeping private homes powered and factories opened, as well as ensuring farmers can continue to work the land.
Fully 50% of those aged 24-50 are unemployed, and there is a shortage of not just medical products but also tens of thousands of doctors due to poor wages.
