The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced Monday that five soldiers from the Nahal Brigade were killed and eight others were seriously wounded when a building collapsed in Beit Hanoun, northern Gaza.
The fallen soldiers have been identified as:
- Captain Yair Yaakov Shoshan, 23, from Maalot-Tarshiha, a team commander in the Nahal Reconnaissance Unit
- Staff Sergeant Yahav Hadar, 20, from Kfar Tavor
- Staff Sergeant Guy Carmeli, 20, from Gedera
- Staff Sergeant Yoav Feffer, 19, from Herzliya
- Staff Sergeant Aviel Weissman, 20, from Poriya Illit
All five were members of the elite Nahal Reconnaissance Unit.
The IDF spokesperson confirmed that eight additional soldiers from the same unit were seriously wounded in the incident. They have been evacuated to hospitals for medical treatment, and their families have been notified.
The incident occurred Monday morning when a building collapsed during military operations in Beit Hanoun. The IDF is investigating the circumstances of the collapse.
This marks one of the deadliest incidents for the Nahal Brigade since the beginning of the ground operation in Gaza. The Nahal Reconnaissance Unit is one of the IDF's most elite infantry units.
