Staff Sergeant Aviel Yosef Wiseman, 20, was killed in action during military operations in northern Gaza, the Israel Defense Forces announced Monday.
Wiseman served as a combat soldier in the Nahal Reconnaissance Unit. He was from Poriya Illit in northern Israel, a fourth-generation combat soldier in his family. He graduated from Darca Beit Yerach High School in the Jordan Valley region before his military service.
He was the son of Meira and Mordechai Wiseman. The Poriya Illit Community Council released a statement expressing their profound grief and calling for community support for the bereaved family.
"Our entire community mourns this loss," the council's statement read. "The support and embrace of our community is crucial during these difficult moments, as we stand together as one extended family."
The council extended their condolences to the Wiseman family, expressing hope that they "know no more sorrow."
The Jordan Valley Regional Council also released a statement expressing their condolences: "The Jordan Valley Regional Council and the Darca Beit Yerach school community deeply mourn the loss of Staff Sergeant Aviel Wiseman. The council and school staff are providing support to the family, the community, and the students during this difficult time."
His family is being supported by military officials and the local community.
In the same incident in which he fell, four other IDF soldiers fell and eight were seriously wounded.
The four fallen soldiers are: Yoav Feffer, Guy Karmiel, Yaakov Shoshan and Yahav Hadar. They fell during militray operations in Beit Hanoun, when a buidling collpased on them. The IDF is investigating the circumstances behind this deadly tragedy.
