Samaria Council head Yossi Dagan met today (Monday) in New York with designated American ambassador Mike Huckabee for the first time following Trump's announcement of his appointment.
Dagan told Huckabee "you are a real friend" and that he is looking forward to working with him personally. Huckabee told Dagan that he considered it a blessing to be part of the wonderful country of Israel.
Dagan says he has known Huckabee for many years and hosted him on tours in Samaria, the peak of which was a visit by the now designated ambassador to the Tomb of Joseph, a visit which received worldwide media attention. Dagan also toured many settlements and outposts in Samaria with Huckabee over the years.
At the end of the meeting between the Samaria council head and the former Arkansas governor, the two gave a statement for the cameras.
Watch:
This coming Wednesday, Dagan is set to launch the official lobby for Judea and Samaria in the US Congress together with Congresswoman Tenney (R-NY). The lobby includes many supportive Congressmembers and will focus on strengthening Jewish settlement in Judea and Samaria. The lobby will aim to deepen ties between Israel, the US Congress and the American public.
Dagan will also attend President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration in Washington, DC next week, together with a delegation of the Yesha Council alongside Binyamin Council head and Yesha Council Chairman Israel Gantz, Oranit Council head Or Piron Zomer, Yesha Council Director-General Omer Rachamim, and the Samaria Council external relations team.
Some government ministers and people in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's circle have expressed hopes that Trump's second term will allow for outright annexation of at least parts of Judea and Samaria, and have prepared plans to this end. However, Trump himself has reportedly opposed this idea in private conversation, at least for now.
