The National Transplant Center released its 2024 activity report on Monday, revealing a record 36 heart transplants performed this year, the highest in Israel's history.
The report also highlighted an increase in transplants from deceased donors, with 156 kidney transplants conducted in 2024, representing a 7.5% rise compared to the previous year. Additionally, transplants from living donors saw growth, with 313 kidney transplants performed—an increase of 5.3% from 2023.
Encouragingly, fewer patients died while awaiting a transplant, with 72 deaths recorded in 2024, down from 77 the previous year. However, the total number of patients waiting for transplants rose to 1,481, including 849 new registrants.
The Adi card program, which promotes organ donation, played a role in expediting transplants for 143 patients. Another 17 patients benefited from priority through donations made by family members.
Despite these advancements, the center noted a decline in new registrations to the Adi registry, attributing this to the impact of the war, which affected public engagement.
