According to reports from Channel 12 News, the commander outlined various threat scenarios for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), informing security personnel in Gaza border communities that Hamas still possesses the capability to launch an attack. He said, “While the chances are small, a terrorist infiltration like the one on 10/7 is still possible.” The commander further acknowledged that Hamas could potentially attack a platoon, a risk that cannot be entirely dismissed.
The situation on the ground has changed since the 10/7 attack, with three IDF divisions currently deployed inside Gaza, and IDF forces now stationed more extensively in surrounding communities. The commander noted that Hamas has been severely weakened throughout the Gaza Strip, but the threat persists.
Additionally, a recent situational assessment led by the IDF and the Ministry of Defense produced a timeline for the return of residents to their homes in the Gaza Envelope. It was decided that residents of ten out of the thirteen communities that had been evacuated will be allowed to return by the start of the school year on September 1, 2025.
The communities included in the return plan are Nir Yitzhak, Netiv HaAsara, Sufa, Kerem Shalom, Ein HaShlosha, Nirim, Re'im, Kissufim, Nahal Oz, and Holit. Rehabilitation efforts are already underway, and security officers are optimistic that the work will be completed by the target date, allowing residents to return home safely.
This warning serves as a reminder that, even with significant progress in the region, the threat from Hamas remains a concern, and security measures continue to be reinforced.
