IDF Recruits Yemeni Immigrants to Aid in Combatting Houthis

Report: Israel Deploys Yemeni-Speaking Immigrants to Combat Houthi Threat

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have enlisted dozens of individuals fluent in the Yemeni dialect to aid in intelligence gathering and enhance their understanding of Yemeni language and culture. These recruits, many of whom are of Yemeni descent and either immigrated to Israel from Yemen or grew up in Yemeni-speaking households, will assist in the IDF's efforts against the Houthi rebel group in Yemen, according to a report by Kan News on Wednesday.

The recruits will support the IDF by providing cultural and linguistic insights and contributing to intelligence operations.

Following a ceasefire with Hezbollah, the Iran-backed Houthi rebels have emerged as a significant threat to Israel, launching near-daily rocket attacks from Yemen. These attacks force millions of Israelis into bomb shelters, causing property damage and putting lives at risk. Kan News reported last week that senior US officials informed their Israeli counterparts that, until the end of the Biden administration's term on January 20, the US will intensify its military strikes against the Houthis.

As part of this strategy, the US has made it clear it intends to target missile-related sites, as Yemen has been increasingly launching missiles toward Israel. A source close to the situation told Kan 11 News that President Joe Biden has authorized the US military to conduct these operations.

Meanwhile, the US administration has asked Israel to carefully assess its targets in Yemen, ensuring that only military sites are being targeted in the fight against the Houthi rebels, and civilian sites are avoided.
