Heartbreaking Farewell: Mia Shem Honors Her Heroic Uncle

TRAGIC ENDING: Former hostage Mia Schem's Uncle takes his own life

Mia Schem has bid an emotional and heart-wrenching farewell to her beloved uncle, Assaf Ben-David, a man she described as “like a father” to her. In a deeply moving tribute, Mia expressed her grief, saying, “My broken heart can no longer contain it. Thank you for what you did for me.”

Assaf’s bravery was evident on October 7th, when he rushed to Nova in search of his niece amidst the chaos of the devastating attacks. During his journey, he witnessed unimaginable horrors, but his determination to bring Mia home never wavered. From that fateful day, Assaf poured every bit of his strength into ensuring her safe return, dedicating himself tirelessly to the cause.

However, the emotional toll of the traumatic experiences he endured, combined with months of relentless work and conversations with the families of other hostages, ultimately became too much for him to bear. Assaf struggled deeply with despair and depression, and tragically, he took his own life this week, leaving behind two young children.

Assaf Ben-David will forever be remembered as a hero of Israel—a man whose courage, deep love for his family, and unwavering devotion to his country made an indelible mark. His sacrifice and memory will continue to serve as a lasting source of inspiration and unity. May he rest in peace.
