A 40-year-old woman was arrested after allegedly stabbing a receptionist and a doctor at a medical clinic in the ultra-Orthodox city of Bnei Brak, police reported Friday. The incident, which occurred at noon on Rabbi Akiva Street, began when the suspect demanded immediate medical attention.
According to police investigators, the woman threatened clinic staff, warning she would "turn the clinic upside down" if not seen immediately. The situation quickly escalated when she produced a knife, allegedly stabbing a receptionist in the neck and wounding a doctor's hand during the assault.
Witnesses described a scene of chaos as the suspect proceeded to vandalize the facility, overturning computer monitors and throwing medical equipment while verbally abusing staff members. Both the receptionist and the doctor required emergency medical attention, including stitches for their injuries.
The Bnei Brak-Ramat Gan police unit responded promptly to emergency calls, arriving at the scene and apprehending the suspect. Following a rapid investigation, the Tel Aviv District Police Prosecution Unit has filed multiple charges against the woman.
The indictment includes charges of armed assault, making threats, illegal possession of a weapon, and willful destruction of property. Prosecutors have requested that the suspect remain in custody until the conclusion of legal proceedings.
This incident occurs amid growing concerns about violence against healthcare workers in Israel. Medical staff across the country have increasingly reported facing aggressive behavior from patients and their families, particularly in emergency care settings.
Local health worker unions have long advocated for increased security measures and stricter penalties for those who assault medical personnel. The case has drawn particular attention in Bnei Brak, where the close-knit religious community heavily relies on local medical facilities for their healthcare needs.
Both victims are reportedly in stable condition following treatment for their injuries. The investigation remains ongoing.
