The IDF plans to establish at least two new regional brigades to better protect Israel's borders in the north and southeast as part of lessons learned from the war, according to a report today (Wednesday) in Israel Hayom.
The IDF plans to establish a third regional brigade, Brigade 301, to join with Regional Brigades 300 and 769, in order to bolster the forces along the northern border after the IDF leaves Lebanese territory, whenever that happens. The brigade would operate under the 91st division.
The army also plans to establish an eastern regional division to protect its eastern border. To that end, it is forming five new defensive brigades based primarily on volunteers aged 38 to 58, with the aim of recruiting some 15,000 soldiers and staff officers.
The IDF continues to occupy key points in Lebanon as Israel, the United States, and Lebanon debate the precise parameters of implementing the ceasefire. Israel has repeatedly stated that it will withdraw from Lebanon based on implementation on the ground rather than the original 60-day timetable.
