The Prime Minister's Office issued a sharp denial Wednesday of reports claiming Israel would agree to a 6-8 week ceasefire in exchange for lists of living and deceased hostages, dismissing the Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar's story as "absolutely false and another part of Hamas' psychological warfare against hostage families and Israeli citizens."
The denial followed National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir's concerned response on X: "If the report about Israel paying with six weeks of ceasefire for a 'list' is true, this would be bankruptcy. I strongly hope this is false information!"
According to Al-Akhbar's report, citing Egyptian officials, negotiations in Doha were considering a deal that would include:
- 6-8 week ceasefire
- Increased humanitarian aid to Gaza
- Healthcare system reconstruction
- Delayed provision of hostage lists
- Continued IDF presence along Philadelphi Corridor and Netzarim
- U.S.-involved discussions about Rafah crossing
The report also noted that Palestinian Authority President Abbas remains resistant to Egyptian mediation efforts with Palestinian factions, while Egyptian sources expressed concern about potential Israeli delays seeking additional concessions.
