Elad Winkelstein, murdered in front of his son, laid to rest in emotional funeral
Tragedy struck again as Staff Sergeant Elad Yaakov Winkelstein, an investigator at the Ariel police station, was killed in a shooting attack near the settlement of Kedumim in the Samaria region while his son was in the vehicle. He was laid to rest last night in a heartbreaking ceremony.

Staff Sergeant Elad Yaakov Winkelstein, 36, a youth investigator at the Ariel police station, was fatally shot Monday in a terrorist attack near Kedumim while his son was present in the car. Winkelstein, a resident of Ein HaNatziv, is survived by his wife, two children, parents, and three siblings. He had served in the Israel Police since 2020 as a dedicated youth investigator.
Police Commissioner Dani Levy attended the funeral along with other senior police officials, including Samaria District Commander Moshe Pinchi, Human Resources Chief Alona Shoshan, Investigations Division Head Boaz Balat, and Security Secretary Sami Marciano.
"This morning, while driving on Route 55 with his son in the car, Elad was shot at close range by terrorist criminals," Commissioner Levy said during the funeral. "I promise that the State of Israel will hold these despicable murderers accountable."
Levy added, "Our enemies are doing everything to undermine the security of Israel's citizens. As we saw this morning, on this front too, Israel Police officers pay with their lives. I deeply appreciate the Samaria District officers for their steadfast stand against terrorism."
May Elad Winkelstein's memory be blessed and may his family be comforted among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.
