Trump, known for his strong support of Israel during his presidency, added, “I am Israel’s best friend. I moved the embassy to Jerusalem—everything was good, including the Abraham Accords, and every major positive event in Israel recently was because of me. I must also note that I support peace—now is the time.”
This statement revisits his previous remark posted on Truth Social in December 2024, in which he warned that those responsible for the ongoing hostage crisis would face the full wrath of the U.S. military. At the time, Trump declared, “If the hostages are not released prior to January 20, 2025, the date I proudly assume Office as President of the United States, there will be ALL HELL TO PAY in the Middle East, and for those in charge who perpetrated these atrocities against Humanity." He further asserted that the consequences for those responsible would be unprecedented in U.S. history.
Trump’s "hell to pay" comment came in response to the killing of American-Israeli Omer Neutra during Hamas' October 7 attack and his body being held hostage. The President-elect has made it clear that the immediate release of hostages is a priority and urged for urgent action.
A recent report from Saudi news outlet A-Sharq revealed a list of 34 hostages reportedly set to be released in the first stage of a potential hostage deal. Among the hostages are young children, 10 women, and 11 male hostages aged 50 to 85, according to a BBC report citing a Hamas official.
Trump's comments signal a continued commitment to holding Hamas accountable and maintaining pressure on the release of hostages.
