Dan Illouz, originally born in Montreal and head of the Israel-Canada Friendship Group, called Trudeau's tenure a "disgraceful, anti-Israel period."
Responding to Trudeau's announcement of his upcoming departure from politics, the Likud MK welcomed the end of his leadership: "Justin Trudeau's resignation marks the end of a disgraceful era. Since October 7, his government repeatedly harmed Israel, supported anti-Israel UN resolutions, pushed for a ceasefire that would have saved Hamas, and stood idle while antisemitism in Canada reached dangerous peaks."
Illouz expressed hope for a better future for Jewish communities in Canada and relations with Israel: "As someone who grew up in Canada and still has family and many friends there, I watched with deep concern how the Jewish community deals with a wave of hatred and intimidation. Canada's moral leadership is important not just for Jews and Israelis, but for the entire free world. As a former Canadian citizen who leads the parliamentary friendship between Israel and Canada, I welcome this change."
He concluded by stating his hope that any leadership following Trudeau would strengthen Canada's moral standing and its relations with Israel: "Whoever replaces him can use this opportunity to restore Canada's moral compass and strengthen the vital alliance with Israel based on truth, strength, and shared values."
