Iran's Health Minister announced that the collapse of the rial and general currency fluctuations are leading to both rising medicine costs and a general shortage in the system, according to Iran International.
Health Minister Mohammadreza Zafarghandi added that the government plans to offset these price hikes by compensating insurance companies to prevent patients from bearing the cost.
Meanwhile, President Masoud Pezeshkian blamed his predecessor Raisi for ending subsidies of health-related products years before, leading to further increases in costs for patients.
Iran's economic woes have been compounding on each other. Currency collapses, mounting unemployment, soaring inflation, and fuel and now medicine shortages are chronic throughout the country with no end in sight.
What is worse for Iran is that President-elect Donald Trump intends to restore "maximum pressure" sanctions on Iran to stop its nuclear program and terrorist funding.
Even now, with Iran reeling from economic issues, the country has promised to help fund the rebuilding of southern Lebanon following the war, at a heavy cost in money.
