US Envoy Amos Hochstein landed in Beirut today (Monday) on a mission to try and have the ceasefire in the north extended for another thirty days, until the Lebanese Army can fully deploy throughout southern Lebanon.

Israel and the IDF have repeatedly signaled that a withdrawal from southern Lebanon is contingent on Hezbollah withdrawing entirely behind the Litani River and the Lebanese Army deploying throughout the whole area and disarming or neutralizing terrorist weapons and infrastructure.

According to a report a few days ago on Kann, the Lebanese Army is struggling to fulfill this mission. The army is stretched thin due to the need to protect Lebanon's Syrian border from refugee waves and possible terrorists, and at least some of the junior commanders appear sympathetic to Hezbollah or at least unwilling to clash with them.

Defense Minister Israel Katz openly said that unless the terms of the ceasefire are fully adhered to, "there will be no agreement," meaning that war will resume.
