The Hind Rajab Foundation (HRF) has been seeking legal representation to file complaints against Israeli soldiers vacationing in Thailand, accusing them of war crimes.
Recently, the group filed its first complaint against one such soldier. In response to growing concerns, Foreign Minister Gideon Saar convened a meeting on Sunday to address how to better protect Jews and Israelis abroad, particularly in light of his involvement in the attempted arrest of an IDF soldier in Brazil and his subsequent escape.
This meeting marked the beginning of a series of planned discussions aimed at improving cooperation between Israeli agencies to address such issues. One key topic was the complaint filed by HRF in Brazil’s federal court against an IDF soldier visiting the country, prompting the court to order an investigation into alleged war crimes committed by the soldier during the Gaza conflict.
From the Israeli authorities’ perspective, managing such incidents abroad involves a three-step process: monitoring the situation, assessing the threat, and understanding the potential risks.
During the meeting, Saar directed participants to develop procedures for handling similar cases in the future, including ensuring that IDF soldiers are briefed on these matters and prohibited from posting operational activities online.
Minister Saar also ordered the establishment of a dedicated hotline for inquiries from both soldiers and civilians, alongside enhanced monitoring of organizations operating against IDF soldiers abroad.
