Just before his entry into the White House, the Wall Street Journal reports this evening that the new President of the United States, Donald Trump, plans to actively act against the regime in Iran to increase sanctions on the Islamic state. The report also indicates that besides sanctions, the new administration is considering options for airstrikes to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons if the goal is not achieved through diplomatic and international means.
A few weeks ago, it was reported in the newspaper that Trump told Netanyahu in their recent conversations that he fears Iran will break through to nuclear capability during his term – and is interested in promoting plans to prevent this.
It was also reported that Trump's team is formulating several military plans, including the reinstatement of the "maximum pressure" policy on Iran and the reinforcement of U.S. military forces in the region. Another option is to transfer advanced weaponry to Israel, such as bunker-busting bombs, with the attack being carried out by Israel.
