Chief Rabbi David Yosef has been placed under immediate security protection after the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) revealed concrete intelligence about terrorist organizations planning to target him, Israeli officials confirmed tonight (Saturday).
Security services raised the threat level against Rabbi Yosef to Level 6 - the highest possible classification. The Ministry of Religious Services was instructed to provide continuous security protection until further notice.
The Chief Rabbi received security briefings immediately after Shabbat ended, and protective measures were put in place starting tonight (Saturday). Sources familiar with the situation say security officials met with Rabbi Yosef at his home to provide guidance regarding his daily schedule and inform him of the new security arrangements.
A follow-up meeting between security officials and the Chief Rabbi's staff is scheduled for tomorrow, where additional details about the Shin Bet's intelligence regarding the threats are expected to be discussed.
Rabbi Yosef recently made headlines for his strong stance on hostage negotiations, stating that Jewish law permits releasing Palestinian prisoners - even those with blood on their hands - to secure the return of Israeli hostages. In exclusive comments about the hostages, he had said, "From day one of the war, dozens of hostage family representatives have sat in this room. Meeting them breaks your heart... it's impossible not to cry with their pain."
