The IDF eliminated two senior officers in the Hamas internal security force last night (Wednesday) in an air strike directed by IDF intelligence. The officers were hiding in the humanitarian zone for fear of the IDF.

According to the IDF, Brigadier General Hussam Shahwan, a senior officer in the Hamas interior security forces, tortured Gaza residents in order to keep the population in line and root out and punish opponents of Hamas rule.

Shahwan was also reportedly responsible for working with other Hamas organs to create an intelligence picture allowing for more effective attacks against IDF forces in the Gaza Strip.

Prior to the attack, the IDF took a number of steps to reduce the possibility of civilian casualties including precise weaponry, aerial observations, and additional intelligence information.
