Forrest Pemberton, a resident of Gainesville, Georgia, is being charged with stalking with the intent of "killing, injuring, harassing, and intimidating" people associated with AIPAC in the state, according to an FBI statement as reported by CBS News today (Wednesday).
According to prosecutors, Pemberton was "in a rideshare vehicle carrying three firearms, including an AR-style rifle, and ammunition when law enforcement officers stopped."
Pemberton told authorities that he had not thought far enough ahead to consider a mass shooting followed by killing himself, saying that he would have first thought of a way to escape such a situation or attack alive.
He allegedly sought to target AIPAC and its employees because of its "political influence" and his "frustration with the status quo." Eventually, he said that he ultimately decided against carrying out his plan and that he wasn't ready and "gave up."
AIPAC told CBS that "We take these threats very seriously and we are working closely with law enforcement concerning this matter. We will not be deterred by extremists in pursuing our mission to strengthen the relationship with America's valued ally, Israel. We are deeply appreciative of the FBI's work to stop this individual."
