During the last night, IDF forces eliminated more than 100 terrorists in ambushes – some attempted to attack our forces and raid the battalions in the field, while others tried to escape under the cover of darkness, heavy rain, and harsh weather conditions.
Now, in a report by Doron Kadosh on Galei Tzahal, new details about the operation are being published. Last night (Sunday), around 21:00 in the evening, information was received by the IDF about the intentions of terrorists to attack our forces and escape from the Jabalia refugee camp. Shortly thereafter, the various battalions were positioned in ambushes and prepared for the attack, and after about an hour or two – reports began to flow into the division's command post:
About 15 initial terrorists began to approach the forces of the Givati Brigade. Another 6 approached the fighters of the multidimensional unit. The forces began to engage them in battles and directed the 'Zik' drones to eliminate them. The multidimensional unit even managed to capture one terrorist, who, during the battle, raised his hands, surrendered, and was arrested.
According to the report, the terrorists continued to arrive in groups, some armed with Kalashnikovs, others wearing military vests – approaching the forces.
The largest attack attempt was deep into the night on the Shaked Battalion of Givati. About 30 terrorists tried to flank the battalion. The deputy battalion commander opened fire first, and the battalion launched a counterattack. In the morning, they counted 16 bodies of terrorists killed in this battle.
At the same time, in the 52nd Armored Brigade of Division 401, another 10 terrorists were identified. They began to encircle them using tank fire and drones – and in the process, identified another 10. The battalion commander led the attack at the head of the battalion – and in the morning, a total of 24 terrorist bodies were counted – which intelligence can identify as Hamas operatives.
Also in the Givati Brigade Reconnaissance Unit and the Tzabar Battalion – cells of 10 terrorists each were identified by the forces – and eliminated.
At the end of the night, the Southern Command counted 106 dead terrorists. Unusually, 2 of the terrorists surrendered during the battles and were taken captive by the forces. One of them testified today in the field investigation that he was part of a cell that numbered more than 10 terrorists.
The report indicates that it is still unclear whether each cell acted alone, or if it was an organized attack by Hamas together. It was also reported that the IDF estimates: they are nearing the completion of operations in the northern Gaza Strip.
