Russia and Ukraine have carried out their largest prisoner exchange in months, with 300 troops heading home in a UAE-brokered deal, Russian defense officials announced today.
The swap sent 150 Ukrainian soldiers back to Kyiv in exchange for an equal number of Russian troops, marking a rare moment of cooperation between the warring nations.
Russian defense officials said their freed soldiers are currently in Belarus, where they're receiving medical care and reconnecting with family members. The Kremlin's longtime ally has been hosting the returning troops as they undergo initial health screenings.
The deal represents one of the most significant prisoner swaps since the conflict began, with the UAE emerging as an unexpected diplomatic bridge between Moscow and Kyiv.
