A powerful show of support emerged Sunday as Diaspora Affairs Minister Amichai Shikli and Knesset Member Moshe Saada met with President Isaac Herzog, advocating for the pardon of Sergeant Ari Rosenfeld. The delegation presented a letter signed by 67 members of the governing coalition, marking an unprecedented level of parliamentary backing for the controversial case.
"Rosenfeld's actions were never intended to compromise national security—quite the opposite," reads the letter, which takes aim at Israel's justice system. The document sharply criticizes the State Attorney's Office, arguing their handling of the case has "severely undermined public confidence in law enforcement."
During the high-stakes meeting at the President's Residence, Herzog listened as Shikli and Saada condemned what they termed the "scandalous and disproportionate" prosecution of Rosenfeld. The ministers pressed for an immediate presidential pardon to "end the ongoing injustice."
The delegation emphasized their hope for a thorough and impartial review of the clemency request, stressing the need for both professionalism and fairness in the process.
This meeting comes a day after hundreds of Israelis gathered on a freezing Hanukkah night outside Ayalon prison, where Rosenfeld is still jailed. In a really bizarre explanation, the court is keeping him in jail because they claim that he knows classified information and they are worried that he will share this information with Netanyahu.
Why Netanyahu is kept in the dark while protecting Israel from war on at least seven fronts, is beyond us. In addition, Eli Feldstein, who was the actual 'leaker' has been released to house arrest while Rosenfeld languishes in jail, his mental condition deteriorating day by day as he is kept in a glass cage, his every move under scrutiny.
