A reserve captain in the IDF's 551 Brigade was killed during combat operations in Gaza yesterday, military officials confirmed. Amit Levi was from the southern community of Shumriya,.
Levi leaves behind a wife, Chen, and four children: Tzur, Noa, Yonatan, and Zohar. His death marks the second casualty from Shumriya in this war, following the loss of Col. Yehonatan Steinberg, who was killed during Hamas's initial attack on Simchat Torah.
"With shattered hearts, we share the news of our beloved friend Captain Amit Levi's fall in battle," the Shumriya community statement read. "He embodied the very best of our community."
Levy's funeral will be held today at 3 PM at Mount Herzl Military Cemetery in Jerusalem. The family will begin sitting shiva afterward, with details to be announced.
The announcement comes just days after another combat casualty, as 21-year-old Sgt. Netanel Pessach from the Kfir Brigade was killed during operations in Beit Lahia. Pesach, from the West Bank settlement of Elazar, was the seventh soldier from his community of 2,600 to die in the current conflict.
