British media are reporting that Asma Assad, wife of the deposed Syrian dictator Bashar Assad, is suffering from a recurrence of cancer and is in serious danger of dying.

Asma Assad, wife of deposed Syrian dictator Bashar Assad, is reportedly possibly dying from a resurgence of lukemia, and is so weak, she is in isolation to protect against infection, according to a report today (Wednesday) in the Warrington Guardian.

There were media reports that Asma also wished to divorce her husband, though these were denied in Russian media, where the Assads are currently residing. The Assad couple did not directly comment on the matter.

Asma, who is a dual British-Syrian citizen, is reportedly not welcome in the United Kingdom, as Foreign Secretary David Lammy said that "she’s a sanctioned individual and is not welcome here in the UK." Prime Minister Kier Starmer, meanwhile, has said that it's too early to say whether she will be stripped of her citizenship.

The Assads have maintained complete silence since their flight from Syria under pressure from the rebel HTS and allied groups, with the exception of one statement in English and Arabic which was posted on the official Syrian President's Telegram channel, which has since been removed.
