It's Something Trump's Administration Must Address

Why the Houthis have the United States in a bind

America's global power projection has been weakened by the Houthis in the Red Sea, with serious consequences for national and global security.

The US is now being forced to ration its naval anti-missile interceptors, in part due to months of protecting itself and Israel from Houthi projectiles and drones, according to Channel 14 News.

Large aircraft carrier groups - including destroyers - have been present in and around the Red Sea since the Houthis launched their blockade and their attacks on Israel after the war in Gaza started.

These ships use SM interceptors which are very expensive and complicated to produce, meaning that presently, the Navy lacks sufficient numbers to both protect itself against Houthi attacks and to preemptively stop Houthi missiles launched from Yemen before they approach Israeli airspace.

Since America needs to preserve at least some of these interceptors for a possible fight with China over Taiwan or other locations, this means more Houthi missiles are necessarily going to penetrate or come close to Israel.

The United States now faces hard choices regarding protecting its ships, since the danger of cheaper and cheaper missiles and drones has only increased.
