A wonderful moment

Soldier and his savior doctor reunite to light first Hannukah candle

Noam Levy, saved on the battlefield, lights a Hanukkah candle with the doctor who gave him a second chance at life.

In an emotional ceremony that took place this evening (Wednesday) at the Assuta Ashdod Public Hospital, Noam Levy, an IDF soldier who was critically wounded in an Iron Sword War, lit the first candle of Hanukkah together with Major Dr. A., a doctor in a special IDF unit.

Dr. A. was the one who gave Noam first aid in the field and ordered his quick evacuation to the hospital, where he was given life-saving treatment.

The event was held in the hospital's nursery, a symbol of life and hope, in contrast to the tragedies of war. Dr. A. said during the ceremony: "On Hanukkah we remember that the few against the many can win, and in the great darkness you can find the light. To see Noam here, lighting a Hanukkah candle in the nursery, is the fulfillment of the values we are fighting for – life, hope and victory."

Noam Levy added: "This year's Hanukkah is a holiday of personal miracle for me. I am grateful to Dr. A. and the staff of Assuta Ashdod for bringing me back to life. To light the first candle here, in a place that brings life to the world – this is proof that no enemy can extinguish our light."

The hospital's CEO, Dr. Erez Barenboim, concluded: "At our hospital, we see a mission not only to save lives, but also to restore light and hope to families and society as a whole. Seeing Noam and Dr. A. in the nursery is a powerful connection between past, present and future, which shows that life always wins."
