The Health Ministry today (Wednesday) reported that it detected the polio virus present in a sample collected from a 17-year-old unvaccinated minor in the Jerusalem area.
The Health Ministry's Jerusalem district continues to carry out epidemiological tests to detect contact and the spread of the virus and direct those who are unvaccinated to receive the vaccine.
The ministry reiterated that the best way to protect children and adults from polio, which has been largely eradicated throughout the developed world, is to be vaccinated. Furthermore, to avoid spreading the virus in general, it is important to maintain proper hand hygiene.
The statement ended with the statement: "A vaccinated child is a protected child."
