Kazakhstan plane crash: At least 12 survivors rescued

Twelve people, including a child, have been extracted from the burning wreckage of an Azeri plane which crashed in the city of Aktau in Azerbaijan today (Wednesday), according to Tengri News.

The Azerbaijan Airlines plane was heading from Baku to Grozny in Russia controlled Chechnya, but was forced to divert - first to Makhachkala, and then to Aktau, due to thick fog, according to the Grozny airport air service.

Rescue forces have already put out the fire caused by the crash and extracted 12 survivors, including a child, in varying states of injury to be sent to the hospital.

The cause of the crash is said to be a collision with a flock of birds.

The Kazakh Health Minister said that a national headquarters has been created, and the Transportation Minister said that a special investigation will be conducted into the crash.
