Police have arrested three foreign workers in connection with the disappearance of an 84-year-old man from Ashdod, Israel, as concerns mount for his safety after nearly a week without contact.
David Kilberg was last seen at his home last Wednesday. His disappearance has sparked a police investigation that led to the arrest of his caregiver, her partner, and another associate, according to Israeli state broadcaster Kan News.
The investigation took a significant turn when investigators discovered that Kilberg's front door was found open at 5 AM on the day he went missing, according to witness testimony from a neighbor.
"The caregiver has been caught in numerous contradictions," Kilberg's daughter told reporters. "We suspect something unintentional may have happened, perhaps negligence, and she panicked. But these are just our speculations at this point."
Police have successfully petitioned the court to extend the detention of all three suspects until Thursday, suggesting they have substantial grounds for investigation. Sources close to the investigation indicate that the third suspect, a friend of the caregiver, may have received crucial information about the disappearance.
However, defense attorney Alexey Galfgant, representing one of the detained workers, strongly disputes the arrests. "My client has an impeccable record as a caregiver," Galfgant stated. "The police have rushed to make arrests without substantial evidence. We categorically deny any involvement in Mr. Kilberg's disappearance."
