Chana (Hannah) Katzir, aged 77, has passed away just over a year after being released from Hamas captivity in a November 2023 prisoner swap.

Katzir was taken hostage during the conflict and suffered significant health deterioration during her time in captivity. Following her release, she was hospitalized in Israel as her condition worsened.

In December 2023, her daughter, Carmit Palty-Katzir, spoke to Galei Zahal about the toll captivity had taken. “My mother’s condition is considered serious,” she said. “There has been a deterioration due to her time in captivity. She was kidnapped without heart issues, and now she has serious heart problems due to the harsh conditions and starvation.”

During Hamas's vicious attack on Simchat Torah, her husband Rami was murdered, and her son Elad was murdered in captivity by Hamas terrorists.

Her funeral is expected to take place today at 16:00 at the cemetery in Kibbutz Nir Oz, from where she was kidnapped on Simchat Torah. May her memory be a blessing.
