In anticipation of Hanukkah, police explosive disposal experts embarked on a unique project to symbolize the journey from darkness to light experienced by northern Israel over the past year.

The project involved repurposing missile fragments that once brought devastation into a menorah designed to radiate hope. Among the fragments incorporated are parts of rockets tied to tragic events: one that killed 12 children playing soccer in Majdal Shams, another that took the life of a school teacher in Shfar'am, and a third that claimed a couple walking their dog in Kiryat Shmona.

During the holiday, the menorah will travel through various northern locations, lit by Northern District Police officers, bereaved families, and residents.

Stops include the northern Golan Heights, where it will be lit alongside families of the children lost in Majdal Shams, Kiryat Shmona with security forces who fought in the war, a hotel in Rosh Pina hosting evacuees from border towns, Shfar'am with the teacher’s grieving family, and finally, Meron, at an annual event marking the holiday’s conclusion.
