The police announced on Sunday that they have launched an investigation into MK Ahmad Tibi after he allegedly justified the kidnapping of IDF soldiers.
Tibi, a member of the Ta’al Party, made the controversial comments during an interview last week on the Knesset Channel. He was discussing the decision by the Hague Tribunal to issue arrest warrants against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.
When asked why he had not mentioned the 100 hostages held in Gaza, Tibi responded, "It's terrible, there are people who should not have been kidnapped, women and children should not have been kidnapped."
However, when questioned about the kidnapped soldiers, Tibi stated, "There is a war, and wars are different, but it is forbidden to harm women and children."
Following these remarks, Shai Glick, CEO of B'Tzalmo, filed a formal complaint with the police and the Attorney General, demanding that Tibi's immunity be lifted and that he be investigated for supporting terrorism and inciting violence against IDF soldiers.
In his letter, Glick wrote, "These remarks contribute to the bloodshed of kidnapped Israeli civilians and IDF soldiers. They are clearly contrary to international law, which prohibits the harm of civilians, especially the elderly, whose only crime is being men."
Glick also warned that Tibi’s statements undermined the public and moral responsibility expected of elected officials and posed a direct threat to IDF soldiers. He emphasized the dangerous message Tibi was sending, which could encourage terrorist activity against soldiers, particularly during wartime, when their risk of harm is significantly heightened.
In response, the police confirmed that the complaint had been received and forwarded to the police investigative unit for further examination.
