The Western Wall Heritage Foundation has announced eight days of ceremonial lightings under the theme "For the Miracles, the Mighty Acts, and the Wars," reflecting both the traditional Hanukkah prayer and Israel's current struggles. Each evening's ceremony will feature an orchestra and draw participants from across Israeli society, including bereaved families, military personnel, diplomats, and religious leaders.
"This year's ceremonies carry special significance," a Foundation spokesperson said. "They represent the enduring spirit of the Jewish people in times of darkness, much like the original Hanukkah story."
The centerpiece of the ceremonies will be a magnificent two-meter-high bronze menorah, weighing approximately one ton, which was installed Sunday morning at the plaza. A second menorah has been positioned atop the Western Wall Heritage House, creating a beacon of light visible across Jerusalem's Old City.
To ensure maximum participation during these challenging times, the Foundation will livestream most ceremonies on its official website, allowing soldiers in bases, patients in rehabilitation centers, and families nationwide to join in the celebrations. The only exceptions will be the Friday and Saturday night lightings, in observance of Shabbat.
Ceremony Schedule:
- First Night (Dec. 25): 4:30 PM
- Second Night (Dec. 26): 4:30 PM
- Third Night (Dec. 27): 3:30 PM
- Fourth Night (Dec. 28): 8:00 PM (Following Shabbat)
- Fifth Night (Dec. 29): 4:30 PM
- Sixth Night (Dec. 30): 4:30 PM
- Seventh Night (Dec. 31): 4:30 PM
- Eighth Night (Jan. 1): 4:30 PM
The initiative represents one of the most inclusive Hanukkah celebrations at the Western Wall in recent memory, bringing together diverse segments of Israeli society at a time when national unity has taken on renewed importance.
