With the ceasefire in the north holding for the moment, the IDF has begun the long and painstaking effort to clear northern towns and their surroundings of any military or construction debris so they can become safe and pleasant places to live again.

Engineering and other forces have gathered in some 40 assembly areas throughout the north in order to fan out and clear out anything dangerous or unsightly caused by the war with trash bags and engineering equipment.

The equipment being collected include construction debris, military equipment, and fallen rockets and shrapnel, which are strewn throughout the north following the firing and often interception of thousands of Hezbollah rockets fired at civilian towns and military bases.

Israel faces a monumental challenge in rebuilding the north, as several polls point to almost three fourths of evacuated residents not wanting to return and with many local leaders not encouraging a return until conditions are far safer than they are now.
