A Jewish elementary school in Toronto came under gunfire early Friday morning, marking the third such attack on Bais Chaya Mushka girls' school in recent months and highlighting the escalating wave of anti-Semitic violence across Canada.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau expressed shock at the latest attack on the North York institution. "This is an anti-Semitic hate attack targeting Toronto's Jewish community," he declared, as police launched their investigation.
But Opposition leader Pierre Poilievre says words aren't enough. "After nine years of Liberal and New Democratic rule, the public lives in fear amid growing hatred and violence, while Trudeau does nothing," the Conservative Party leader charged.
The shooting represents the latest in a surge of anti-Jewish hostility across Canada since October 7. Jewish institutions from Quebec to British Columbia have faced shootings and firebomb attacks, while pro-Hamas demonstrations have openly supported violence against Jewish communities.
Toronto police are investigating the incident, which fortunately resulted in no injuries but has left the city's Jewish community increasingly concerned about security at educational institutions.
