Swedish Aid Minister Benjamin Dousa said today (Friday) on Swedish television that his government will be diverting money from UNRWA to "other conduits" for providing aid to Gazan civilians during the war, according to the Jewish chronicle.
Diaspora Affairs Minister Amichai Chikli congratulated this decision on X, calling it a "courageous and critical decision." Chikli further said that "UNRWA, whose personnel actively participated in the October 7 atrocities, whose facilities became terror hubs, and whose schools spread Hamas propaganda and incitement, has lost its legitimacy to exist."
Yesterday, the UN passed a resolution asking the International Court of Justice at the Hague for an advisory opinion as to Israel's responsibilities in Judea, Samaria, and Gaza, with specific reference to its banning of UNRWA, which the UN has fought bitterly.
Israel decided to ban UNRWA from the country and from cooperation with any and all government bodies, including security bodies responsible to facilitating aid into the country, after a number of UNRWA employees actively participated in October 7th and many hundreds and perhaps thousands were found to have active terror ties.
