Defense Minister Israel Katz announced today (Thursday) that he will not approve any new appointments of IDF officers to the rank of Major General until it completes its investigations into the events of October 7th. He also said that
The IDF has already conducted a number of investigations into specific episodes of that event - such as attacks on IDF bases and the massacre committed at Kibbutz Be'eri.
However, both IDF soldiers and Be'eri survivors of the massacre claim that the investigation elided or dodged critical questions about the army's failure to prevent or more quickly stop the attacks in that location, and it may well be that the complete IDF investigation will raise similar objections.
Meanwhile, multiple figures in the opposition and even in the coalition are calling for a State Commission of Inquiry headed by a judge, while most of the coalition opposes the idea, on the grounds that it would not be impartial due to the clashes between the right generally and the justice system.
