The Swiss lower house voted to ban Hezbollah from the country today (Tuesday) after the Swiss Senate voted on a similar measure. The law is now in the hands of the Swiss Federal Council to implement, according to SwissInfo. This comes one week after Switzerland decided to ban Hamas.

The Swiss government had previously opposed banning Hezbollah, among other things due to Hezbollah not being considered to have committed heinous crimes justifying such an extreme move such as the October 7th Massacre, or the actions of al-Qaeda and ISIS which led to their being banned from the country.

However, the Swiss Parliament disagreed and by an overwhelming vote of 126-20 with 41 abstentions, the Swiss lower House of Representatives voted to ban the terrorist group from the country.

If the ban is the same as the ban on Hamas, the prohibition will last for five years, and it can be renewed through ordinary parliamentary procedure.
