Life-threatening infection spreading across Israel. These are the symptoms.

An unusual outbreak in Israel of a syndrome called "hemolytic syndrome," which causes the destruction of blood cells, clotting disorders, and kidney damage, is reported by Dr. Itai Gal on the 'Maariv' website. According to the report, 26 Israelis have contracted the rare syndrome so far in 2024.

The Ministry of Health suspects that the cases are related to an infection by the fecal bacterium E. coli, which releases a dangerous toxin. The infection is likely caused by poor hygiene or the consumption of contaminated food, especially undercooked meat or vegetables and fruits that have not been properly washed.

According to Dr. Gal's publication, the symptoms of the disease include bloody diarrhea, abdominal pain, vomiting, weakness, decreased urine output, and symptoms of kidney failure such as edema and high blood pressure. The diagnosis is based on blood tests that reveal anemia due to the destruction of red blood cells, a shortage of platelets, and severe kidney damage.

The Ministry of Health stated that they are working to deepen the epidemiological investigation and identify the sources of infection in order to prevent another outbreak.
